Reporting for Duty, Sir!!
by Carol Yasin
The Battle for the souls of men, women, boys and girls continues to rage and we can ill-afford to be found sleeping at our post or M.I.A. (Missing-in-Action).
Ever since satan and his rebellious, angelic cohorts were cast out of Heaven, there’s been a spiritual war raging here on earth. In reality, his tempting Eve with the forbidden fruit was one of his many “wiles, snares, devices, traps, tools, etc.” designed to draw her away into sin. And, ever since that time he and his evil army have made thwarting God’s Kingdom work and disarming or discouraging His Army (His People, the Church, etc.) however he can his #1 priority.
That’s why every one of us who call ourselves the followers of Christ must be found faithful in our Mission—for many souls hang in the balances of Eternity. And, it’s impossible for us to do that if
we’re “ignorant of his devices” (II Corinthians 2:11) and are easy pickings for him because of our unfamiliarity with spiritual warfare or how to wear our Armor (Ephesians 6:10-18).
Truly, as “good soldiers of Jesus Christ, we cannot entangle ourselves with the affairs of this life if we are to please Him Who has chosen us to be His soldier” (II Timothy 2:3-4). This means we must ever guard against becoming, as someone said, “so earthly-minded that we’re no Heavenly good”.
How easily we’re drawn away by the devil’s delicious dainties that cater to our “lusts of the flesh, eyes and pride of life” (I John 2:16). He knows our weaknesses in physical appetites (e.g., drink, drugs, smoking, chewing, sexual immorality, etc.) and susceptibility to crave that which is “pleasing to the eye” (Genesis 3:6) when it comes to the finer things or forbidden things of life (e.g., designer clothes, fast cars, beautiful houses, land, money, power, prestige, etc.). He also knows how intoxicating all of these are and how they dull our senses, calcify our consciences and harden our hearts.
But, God forbid that we should be so easily seduced and dissuaded from our duty! If we are to “be more than conquerors through Him Who loved us” , we must “fight the good Fight, finish our course and keep the Faith” . Only then will we win the “Crown of Righteousness which the Lord, the Righteous Judge, will give to those who are faithful and long for Christ’s appearing” (II Timothy 4:8).
So, how goes it, friend? Are you waging effective warfare against the devil and “causing him to flee” (James 4:7) or are you allowing him to set up strongholds in your life by the way you live? Are you preparing for Battle through daily prayer and meditation on God’s Word or are you more in tune with the world’s ways, views and values than you are God’s? Tough questions that demand an answer.
