God’s plan or My plan!
by Carol Yasin
Do you have a purpose to live for? Do you believe that God has a plan for your life? Or are you busy with your own plans and end up messing your life?
I was once such a girl in this world with my own plans and my own relationships in my past. God had a little part to do with my life. I didn’t realize that all my plans will be thwarted and will end up in failure.
I had a very few friends during my school and college days. And I had myself in a circle with them avoiding the relationship around which God had given. I enjoyed my life, laughed with them, but I always had a void feeling in my heart. I always felt like I don’t have a purpose to live my life. When I was crying, I was all left all alone. No one was there to wipe away my tears. I was very lonely and my loneliness made me to end up my life. But, by the Grace of God, I was miraculously saved and here am I, penning it down what God has done in my life.
Then I realized that God’s plans are always the best when compared to ours. By profession, I wanted to become a doctor. That was my dream from my childhood days. But my family couldn’t afford to get a medical seat for me. My dreams got shattered. I was into Engineering when once I was seeing the computers as my real enemies. God always had a plan for our life. He knows, if I would have become a doctor, I would have ran out of the hospital the very first day. Because I was very sensitive such that I sometime faint when I see a large pool of blood. When I am typing this, I thank God for making me a part of His plan. He knows the best for me and yes, He knows the best for you too. If you are at the stage of distress thinking, “Why my plans are always failing?” it is time to turn towards God and ask Him, “Lord, what plans do you have for me? What is the purpose of my Life?” He knows us better than anyone else, even He knew us better than us. He whispers in our ears, “Son/Daughter, ‘For I know the plans I Have for you… Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and future (Jeremiah 29:11)’”
Recently, I went to Children’s park in Chennai with my family. We went there during lunch time. My daughter was so much excited to see all the kids in the park. The park was very much crowded with children as it was a holiday. Time passed by and I saw parents pulling their kids from the play area. Why? The parents knew that the kids had to eat at that time. The child might complain, “Mom, I am busy with my own schedule. I just wanted to play.” But only the Mom knows that it will spoil his/her health, if the child is playing without eating. Mom must be having other plans for her child which will be the best for the child.
That’s how our Heavenly Father also has better plans for us than anyone else in this world. His plans for us are the most important plans and are certainly the ones that will bring us the most joy. And remember, ‘You are very special in His eyes’.
Now we know, how His plans are very important in our life than our plans, how do we identify His plans He has for us? Does He talk to us every day?
Yes, He does.
He talks to us through prayer, through people and even through His Word when we are reading it.
When I was about to end my life, I said I was saved miraculously. But after recovering physically, I couldn’t recover mentally. I locked myself in a dark room without having a contact with the outside world. At that time, God sent me a friend, with whom I lost contact for more than a year to show His unconditional love for me, to get my life back to normal and give it into His hands. When I started recovering from my scars that I had in my heart with His love, He sent me a squirrel to play with. Can you imagine that? Sending a squirrel to make me feel better! Yes, He did. It was my best companion to make me feel better and it taught me to love the nature created by the Master.
To know His plans, we should be in a perfect relationship with Him. He wants us to identify with His will and work in this world, Yet He wants us to first to identify with Him. He wants to be our Father and desires us to be His children.
When will this relationship begin?
First, be very sure that He didn’t call us to have a religion. He called us to have a relationship with Him. We should realize that our sin separated us from Him and believe that He can make us right with Him. When we repent of our sin and ask His forgiveness, He grants and we become His children. He gives us the right to become His children when we believe Him. “Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12)”. When we are saved, the Holy Spirit dwells in us, through Jesus Christ and He starts guiding us to know His will and plans for us. This is when our relationship begins with Him. Again, it is not the religion that begins, but a relationship.
Second, our relationship with Him should be more primary than anything else in this world, including our marriage and our career plans. Remember, God’s plan has ‘mustness’ in it. When He says, “You must go this way”, you MUST. Obedience and surrenderance are very important in having a perfect relationship with Him “To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams (1 Samuel 15:22)”. The plan of God should supersede all our plans for ourselves and others.
As Job said, “I know that You can do all things; no purpose of Yours can be thwarted (Job 42:2)” and that includes the plan He has for your life and mine and for His relationship with us.
Some people just live their lives as I did earlier and never get what they wanted because they are always looking it in the wrong places. They have never found the reason for which they can live and die. When we come into relationship with God through Christ, we will have a definite reason for living. To know God and what He has in mind for you is to find purpose and meaning, a reason for being.
